Crowds of pint-sized Pirates invaded the streets of Frostburg, Wednesday, July 14, as part of the Pirates Ahoy festivities hosted by the FSU Children’s Literature Center and supported by Frostburg First. Arriving at City Place in the morning hours, skull and cross-bone clad children accented their costumes with face paintings and temporary tattoos.
Decked out in their Pirate gear, they crafted pirate flags and maps at City Place and on the Allegany Arts- Arts Bus, and visited local businesses on their quest to collect gold coins as part of a treasure hunt. A highlight for many young pirates was a special drawing presentation by Pittsburgh based children’s illustrator and Pirate enthusiast John Manders.
Joining in the fun, several Frostburg businesses offered special treats, readings, and hands-on crafts for the nearly 300 costumed pirates, ranging in age from 9 months to 12 year olds.

At least one familiy included their dog in the day's events.
