Come and experience traditional glass work presented by Elizabeth Braun at Mountain City Traditional Arts, Sunday, December 4th at 4 P.M. This overview will explore the many and exciting ways in which glass is made. A selection of Braun’s handcrafted glass pieces will also be available for sale. The program is hosted by Frostburg State University students enrolled in Sociology 350: Folklore in Appalachia. It is part of an ongoing series supported by the Appalachian Regional Commission’s Teaching Project.
A current resident of West Virginia, Braun engages in several styles of glass work, while specializing in custom architectural windows for homes and business. Her methods include everything from traditional leaded and cooper foil methods, beveling, etching, and painting on glass to warm glass methods including fusing, kiln forming, glass casting and pate de verre.
Braun enjoys teaching students of all ages about this craft and plans to organize a series of educational workshops and projects in the local area soon.
Located at 25 East Main Street, Frostburg, Mountain City Traditional Arts is dedicated to the education, sales, documentation and perpetuation of traditional arts in the mountain region. The venue is a program of Frostburg State University with support from the Allegany Arts Council, FrostburgFirst: A Main Street Community, the Maryland Traditions Program of the Maryland State Arts Council, and the FSU Foundation.
