We've seen a number of polls on our race in the last few weeks. Every one of them tells us that this race will be close. The latest is a Gonzales Research poll from this week that shows Governor O'Malley leading Bob Ehrlich 45-42.
News of these close polls comes as we enter the final critical months of the campaign. The campaign has its first campaign finance report of the year on August 10th and we need your help to hit our goal. We don't know how much money Bob Ehrlich has raised but his special interest clients are certain to come through and make it a very big number. Remember he significantly out raised our campaign in 2006 and we expect him to have a strong showing once again.

The special interests that have supported Bob Ehrlich for years will stop at nothing to get him back to Annapolis. Some are his clients, some are his longtime donors, and others are national groups that want nothing more than putting a Republican back in charge of Maryland. The Republican Governor's Association has over $40 Million in the bank, and is already running negative ads in other states. We expect them to begin running ads here in Maryland in the coming weeks to mislead voters about Governor O'Malley's record.
Knowing what's coming, the campaign has put a series of ads on television to get Governor O'Malley's record out to Maryland families. The ads discuss those tough decisions the Governor has made to steer us through a national recession, and the focus on jobs that is making Maryland's economic recovery one of the strongest in the nation. But it takes money from supporters like you to keep those ads on the air.

According to the new poll, Marylanders know the tough decisions Governor O'Malley has made to move Maryland forward and approve of the job Governor O'Malley is doing to create jobs and protect our priorities during this national recession. Maryland families recognize that Governor O'Malley "has done a good job as governor." They know he's cut state spending, reduced the size of government and worked to create jobs and help small business expand. They know he's always put middle-class families first.
But we need your help to compete against Bob Ehrlich's special interest clients and the millions that national right-wing interests are prepared to give Bob Ehrlich through the Republican Governor's Association.
