The following opinion has been submitted by the O'Malley for governor campaign.....

Brown calls Ehrlich's comments about military voting "selfishly political" and irresponsible.  Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown, the highest ranking elected official to serve in Iraq, released the following statement in response to Bob Ehrlich's incredulous and distorted comments about military voting:  "Once again, Bob Ehrlich's playing political games with our military families. First, the attacked Governor O'Malley for visiting our troops in Iraq, and now he's making
misleading and irresponsible comments that will discourage our military families from requesting an absentee ballot and exercising their right to vote - a right they are fighting to protect.  Bob Ehrlich doesn't get it. Our brave servicemembers and their families should  not be used to advance the selfish political ambitions of a former governor who  doesn't understand what it means to wear the uniform."

Lt. Governor Brown understands that public officials have an obligation to serve those who serve. He has spent a quarter century as a member of the United States Armed Forces, is a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves and is the nation's highest-ranking elected official to have served a tour of duty in Iraq.

Assuming this site is operating as a 501c3, you might not want to jeopardize your tax status by reprinting verbatim electioneering messages from a partisan political campaign.

A good point to bring up. There has been discussion amongst appindie as to where to put things like this that are part of a political campaign. We had considered a separate category for press releases/ campaigning, but decided for the time being to post them in the Opinion section.

Perhaps one solution would be to preface things like this as clearly being a press release.

Your thoughts on this are very much appreciated, and thanks so much for reading appindie.

Marc, Thank you for your suggestion. As Jeff noted, where to place campaign releases has been under discussion. For the time being we will continue to publish them in the opinion section but will add the preface as to the origin of the release. We have reached out to many political venues hoping to receive campaign information from all parties, but have had little response. For your information, we are also providing links to Mark Fisher's site, www.alleganyobserver.com where he has been posting interviews with many of the candidates for the upcoming elections. We appreciate your thoughts, Susan Davis, interim editor, appindie.org

Governor O'Malley and Lt. Governor Brown are the ones that just don't get it. O'malley's job is to improve the status of Maryland not party with our troops in Iraq. If O'Malley wants to be governor again he should at least pretend to give a damn about the state. Its not about troops Mr.Brown, it is about making OUR state better. Its about time you two live up to your oath and improve Maryland, something you neglected to do since day one.

No, O'Mally's 'job' is to provide cover for Corporate America as they wage war all over the globe which facilitates the continued flow of money upward to the ruling class. His 'job' is the same as Ehrlich's was, and his successor will have the same 'job.' It's the same 'job' as practically every U.S. professional politician, regardless of which of the two Big Business parties with which they identify.
Which poses a question

If we can see that it is all a farce; if we can see that what we are basically doing is feeding a system that constantly strives to promote itself at our expense; if we can see that we are not living the way that we had intended; what can we do to change it or stop it? I am posing a serious question as to how we progress from this point to the next; a simple answer will not do. We have admitted defeat so many times in the past by saying that we cannot change that which we cannot accept, but we know it needs to be changed. So, the question is presented, I seek viable answers that we can put into practice in order to effect this change.
sorry if this is too simple a response.

A good beginning to having democracy in the United States would be for everybody to switch off the corporate brainwash tube and leave it off.
