Mr. Al Feldstein, local historian, will be guest speaker at the Frostburg Community Library on Tuesday, April 20 at 7 PM to discuss his newest publication The Great Cumberland Floods: Disaster in the Queen City. Friends of the Frostburg Community Library invite the public to this program, which they are helping to host as part of the library system’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. Join us in the John Bambacus Meeting Room. Light refreshments will be served.
Mr. Feldstein has published over 30 books and videotapes depicting the history of Western Maryland Counties – Allegany, Garrett, and Washington – as well as nearby West Virginia. Frostburg Branch Manager Pat Merrbach commented that “Feldstein is such an interesting and knowledgeable speaker; he draws a large crowd whenever he comes here.”
The library’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations were designed to take place in conjunction with popular events taking place within the communities, as a way to give thanks to library supporters over the years, and to invite new patrons to check out the collections, services, and programs at the library.
The Friends of the Frostburg Community Library provide extra support to the library, in the form of funding for the branch’s identified needs. John Riley, President of the Friends said the “group was formed in 2002 and now has over 150 families with subscriptions. We’re grateful to the community of Frostburg for their support. And we have a wonderful relationship with Pat Merrbach and her staff at the library”. The Friends group just started their membership drive for 2010. Information about becoming a member of The Friends of The Frostburg Community Library can be found at this event on April 20th at the library, or by calling (301) 687-0790.
