New Germany State Park will host several events over the Labor Day Weekend. All programs are free of charge unless otherwise indicated. This schedule is subject to change so please contact the park office to confirm program information at 301-895-5453.
Friday, Sept. 3 Old Time Jam
Lake House, 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Musicians and spectators of all ages are invited to gather at the Lake House to share and enjoy traditional folk, bluegrass, and other “old-time” Appalachian music. The jam session will be an informal gathering, where both new and experienced musicians are welcome to “chime in,” dance, or just sit back and enjoy the music. This will be the last jam of the season. Thanks to all who have shared their talents!
Saturday, Sept. 4 Smooth n’ Scales
Lake House, 3:00 p.m.
Kids! Slither your way over to New Germany State Park for an afternoon of reptiles and amphibians! Get close and personal with native species found in Western Maryland. Also learn about similarities and differences between the two classes of animals. Appropriate for all ages.
Growing Up at New Germany
Schoolhouse Nature Center, 7:00 p.m.
Bill Martin, son of the first Forest Warden for the area, spent his youth exploring New Germany. He will share tales of his school days and childhood antics from growing up in this small community. Appropriate for all ages.
Sunday, Sept. 5 Wildflower Walk
Meet at Lake House, 2:00 p.m.
Join local resident Gus Johnson in a search of late summer wildflowers. This is will be a nice easy walk along the trails. Appropriate for all ages.
