The Deep Creek Lake State Park carved Bears have come out of hibernation and have been decorated by local artists. They will be displayed from Memorial Day through Autumn Glory at sponsoring businesses throughout Garrett County
This event, “Discover the Bears, Carve a Memory: Only in Garrett County©” has been organized by the Western Garrett County State Park Volunteers, Inc.(WGCSPV), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organi-zation, to raise money for a Forest Canopy Walkway to be built at the Deep Creek Lake State Park Discovery Center. This walkway will be one of only 10 such walkways in the United States.
So, get your "Bear-ings:" Follow the trail and find the bears. Ask for your trail guide with map at the Deep Creek Lake Visitor Center, The Discovery Center at DCL State Pake and sponsoring businesses. Visit all 20 Bears (from Grantsville to the southern end of the county) and be eligible for a grand prize drawing.* . For those intrepid souls who want more of a chal-lenge, look for the GPS coordinates of each bear lo-cated inside the guide. And, if you want to visit a sponsor’s website, use your smart phone to scan the QR Code to go to the links for all sponsors.
