charter school picOn September 1, 2010, founding board members of Mountain Maryland Public Charter School submitted a proposal for Allegany County’s first public charter school. The proposal was received at the Board of Education building by Sheree Witt, Director of Pupil Services and the Charter School Liaison for Allegany County Public Schools.  The 362-page document has been under development since September of 2009.

 

Public charter schools are tuition-free public schools open to all students. According to the Maryland Charter School Network website, charter schools are created by community members and have greater independence in exchange for high accountability for student outcomes.

FROSTBURG – Members of the Neighborhood Friends Care Ministry appeared before the Frostburg Mayor and City Council recently to detail a volunteer program that provides assistance for small chores that can loom large for the elderly or disabled.
Neighborhood Friends Care is an ecumenical network of care based at the Frostburg Presbyterian Church, 33 Broadway.
Inspired by the passage from the Gospel of John, 3:16-18, imploring Christians to “let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth,” the organization seeks to help those who have trouble helping themselves.

Wastewaters from Marcellus Shale Drilling Topic at AHC September Meeting

 

 

The Allegheny Highlands Conservancy (AHC) will hold its regular meeting on Wednesday, September 15th at 7:00 pm in the CAOS building at Garrett College.  We will be viewing an archived webinar presented by Bryan Swistock, Water Resources Specialist, School of Forest Resources, Penn State University.  This webinar which was originally broadcast on 10-28-09 is titled “Treatment/Disposal Options for Wastewaters from Shale Gas Drilling”.  The public is welcome to attend.
