The following statement was issued by Frostburg Mayor Robert Flanigan during last weeks' monthly meeting of the City Council:

This month the city of Frostburg will begin the difficult process of building the budget for the new fiscal year that will start on July 1, 2012. All indications are that revenue will remain stable, not growing or declining, for the next fiscal year, as compared to the current year.
The Mayor and Council will be faced not only with developing the dollars-and-cents numbers of the budget, but even more important, setting the priorities for the city for the coming year. At a time when the national economy is still very weak and the actions of the state government may result in reduced resources and/or increased taxes at the county level, small cities like Frostburg must work very hard to reach key decisions on taxes, expenses and programs.
Each citizen of the city of Frostburg is encouraged to learn about the city's budget process and the status of the city's financial capabilities. They can start by reviewing the budget information available on our Web site at www.frostburgcity.com. Monthly budget reports are also available at City Hall. Citizens can also attend the Work Sessions and Council Meetings during the next four months, February through May, when the budget discussions will be held and eventually the decision will be made.
Any citizen with questions regarding the budget process may call the City Administrator at 301-689-6000, ext. 25, or Director of Finance, at 301-689-6000, ext. 13.
