Jeff Ford Hi ResThe Frostburg State University Center for Creative Writing will host a reading by mystery, science fiction and fantasy writer Jeffrey Ford as part of its spring 2015 reading series. This event is free and open to the public and will be held on Thursday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. on the third floor of FSU’s Lewis J. Ort Library.

Ford is an American writer known for his sweeping imaginative power in speculative fiction, a broad genre that includes any fiction with a fantastic or futuristic aspect. His stories and novels have won numerous prestigious awards in science fiction and fantasy, including a Nebula Award and six World Fantasy Awards. According to the dictionary the word “hooley” is defined as a noisy, merry party. With a bit of Irish luck, Downtown Cumberland will be the epitome of that word when Cumberland celebrates the 17th annual St. Paddy’s Day Hooley Pub Crawl on Saturday, March 14.

 

“The Hooley was the brainchild of the band Shanty Irish and it was an immediate success”, commented Jennifer Light of the Downtown Development Commission. The band is still an integral part of the celebration and according to Light “it just seems to grow in popularity every year”.

 

This year’s Hooley will be the largest to date with more than 20 participating restaurants, clubs, bars and pubs. The festivities will kick off at noon on Saturday with each of the participating ...

FSU Faculty Member Dr. Yan Bao Honored With USM Award for Teaching PDF Print E-mail

Dr. Yan Bao, an associate professor in the Frostburg State University Department of Accounting, has been awarded the Regents’ Faculty Award for Teaching, the highest honor that the University System of Maryland Board of Regents bestows to recognize exemplary faculty achievement. She will be honored at the April 10 meeting of the board.

Bao’s honor marks the seventh time since 2007 that an FSU faculty member has been honored by the regents.

“Dr. Bao has been one of the most dynamic faculty members at the FSU College of Business since 2002 at both the undergraduate and graduate levels,” said Dr. Ahmad Tootoonchi, dean of FSU’s College of Business. “She has routinely earned one of the highest evaluation ratings in the College of Business for the past 10 years ...
