Dr. Yan Bao, an associate professor in the Frostburg State University Department of Accounting, has been awarded the Regents’ Faculty Award for Teaching, the highest honor that the University System of Maryland Board of Regents bestows to recognize exemplary faculty achievement. She will be honored at the April 10 meeting of the board.

Bao’s honor marks the seventh time since 2007 that an FSU faculty member has been honored by the regents.

Frostburg State University President Jonathan Gibralter has been named the 19th president of Wells College, a private, liberal arts college in Aurora, N.Y. He will leave FSU effective June 30.

Gibralter was named FSU’s 14th president in March of 2006 and took the helm in August of that same year. In a message to the campus community, Gibralter said, “From the first time I set foot on the campus in March of 2006, I knew what a special place this was and have been very proud and honored to be your president. We have accomplished a lot these past years and have truly transformed FSU together into a competitive regional comprehensive university.

Girls 2 Scientists, an event to encourage more girls to study the sciences and pursue rewarding careers in biology, chemistry, physics, forestry, nanotechnology, biotechnology and environmental science, will take place Friday, Feb. 20, at Allegany College of Maryland.


This evening program, designed to show girls that the science disciplines are well worth considering, is spearheaded by women faculty members in ACM’s Science Division.


“We have great faculty and excellent teachers,” said Roberta Mills, division office manager for ACM’s three campuses. “Our facilities are superior, and with our great faculty, our students transfer throughout the country. ACM has great opportunities for science scholarship.”

As previously announced, the Allegany County Commissioners, William R. Valentine, Creade V. Brodie, Jr., and Jacob C. Shade, encourage all Allegany County residents to take advantage of an exceptional upcoming opportunity to recycle unwanted electronic residential items free of charge. This will be on Saturday, January 24, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Penn-Mar Recycling Center, 975 Kelly Road – Rear Entrance, Riverside Industrial Park, Cumberland. Proof of Allegany County residency will be required.
