Woodland Owners of the Southern Alleghenies, Penn State Cooperative Extension and Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' Bureau of Forestry invite the public to an Invasive Plant Management Workshop on August 28, from 9 to noon at 844 Oakleaf Road, McConnellsburg, Fulton County, Pennsylvania. Invasive non-native plants occur as trees, shrubs, vines, grasses, ferns, and forbs. Some have been introduced accidentally, but most have been brought intentionally as ornamentals or livestock forage. These plants arrived without their natural controls (insects and diseases) that tend to keep native plants in balance. Most are able to increase across the landscape with little opposition. Art Gover of Penn State University and Dave Jackson of Penn State Cooperative Extension will explain the impact of invasive plants and their characteristics, solutions, field identification of forest invasives and herbicide equipment, products and application methods. Registration deadline is August 20. Registration fee of $15 includes handouts and refreshments. Checks made payable to "Extension Special Fund" may be sent to Penn State Cooperative Extension - Fulton County, 2116 N. 2nd Street, Suite 1, McConnellsburg, PA 17233. Questions? Call Dave Scamardella 717 485-3148.
