FSU's Activities for Life Offers Infant-Toddler and Preschool Swimming Lessons, Youth and Adult Climbing Classes and Tumbling Classes

Activities for Life at Frostburg State University will offer an infant-toddler/preschool swim class for children ages 3 to 36 months on Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 13 through 29, from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at the Cordts PE Center pool.

The class requires a parent to be in the water with each child. Parents and children will participate in water exploration activities with the objective of having fun and becoming comfortable in, on and around water. Children who are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper.

Youth and adult climbing classes will take place on Monday evenings, Sept. 6 through 27, at the Cordts PE Center climbing wall in room 170. Registration and payment deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 1.

The youth class for children ranging in age from 6 to 9 will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The adult class for participants 16 and older will be from 7 to 9 p.m.

Both classes will introduce participants to the sport of climbing, which offers limitless potential for physical, mental and emotional growth. Participants will learn proper stretching, safety and climbing techniques.

The instructor will be Tylor Street, who holds a Maryland Top Rope Certification.

Various tumbling classes for children ranging in age from 3 and up will be held on Thursdays, beginning Sept. 16. All classes will be held in Cordts PE Center room 170.

The beginner class is for children ages 5 to 12 and is limited to 15 participants with a minimum of 7. It will be held through Oct. 15 from 5 to 6 p.m. and will include basic floor tumbling exercises and some work on the low balance beam.

The intermediate class is for all ages and is limited to 15 students with a minimum of 7. It runs through Oct. 15 and meets from 6 to 7 p.m. Requirements for this class are a solid cartwheel and working toward a solid round off.
