With 68 teams, 883 registered participants, and more than 1,000 people in attendance, Frostburg State University’s Relay For Life event has raised $43,680 as of May 5.  The two-day event was held April 23 and 24.  All monies raised through Relay will support the American Cancer Society with cancer research and possibly finding a cure.

Frostburg’s Relay For Life takes a whole year to plan.  With many hours dedicated by students, faculty, and staff and community members, Relay is one of the biggest events held during the school year.  The event begins with a lap from members of the FSU community who are cancer survivors.  Following the first lap by the survivors, who wear purple sashes, the volunteers from the more than 60 participating teams begin the marathon walk with at least one member from each team on the track for the length of the Relay.  Luminaries that honor survivors and those lost to cancer circled the entire stadium track, with more on the bleachers spelling out “HOPE.”
