Abigail Lynn Snyder, 22, of Frostburg, Md., has been accepted into the Peace Corps and will be departing for Togo on Sep.19 to begin pre-service training as a natural resource management Peace Corps Volunteer. She will graduate from Volunteer training in December.
Snyder is the daughter of Cherie and Tim Snyder and a graduate of Beall High School in Frostburg, Md. She then attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., where she earned a bachelor of arts in environmental studies, graduating in 2008. Snyder previously worked for Greenpeace.
“After graduating college, I was determined to alleviate some of the world’s problems, no matter how great or small my impact would be. I wanted to use the skills I acquired in college to build sustainable communities,” Snyder said of her decision to become a Volunteer. Snyder joins the 212 Maryland residents currently serving in the Peace Corps. More than 5,182 Maryland residents have served in the Peace Corps since 1961.
