Jerri etcLess than a week after Donald Trump was elected as President of the United States, I was organizing to go with fifty Western Marylanders on a bus from Cumberland to join the Women’s Woman on Washington, D.C. Having grown up in D.C. in the 1960’s,  I knew something about protesting.  I was a in elementary school when Martin Luther King had a Dream and spoke at the Lincoln Memorial;  I one of so many college students who protested the War in Vietnam on the National Mall.  I was the granddaughter of suffragists who linked arms with thousands like them to demand the vote for women. It was time to protest again, and I was eager to be there. . . .Until I wasn’t.

Frostburg Professor’s Legacy Lives On Through Luzader Physics Scholarship PDF Print E-mail

StephenIn physics, actions cause equal and opposite reactions, but interactions are less predictable with humans. People seldom realize their full impact on others.

One of those people was Frostburg State University professor emeritus Dr. Stephen Luzader, who lost his eight-year battle with cancer on June 12, 2016.

To preserve his legacy at FSU and support the physics program he loved so much, his widow, Dr. Hang Deng-Luzader, and former student and colleague Dr. Eric Moore, both faculty in the Department of Physics and Engineering, recently established the Dr. Stephen Luzader Physics Scholarship.

The Luzader Scholarship supports physics majors with a GPA of at least 3.0, with preference for juniors or seniors pursuing graduate school or teacher certifications as demonstrated ...

Engage Mountain Maryland, in cooperation with Citizen Shale, and the Don't Frack Maryland Coalition, welcomed Senator Bobby Zirkin from District 11, Baltimore County Tuesday evening to address the public about fracking legislation and the process to pass a ban on the industry in Maryland. The senator has seen and sponsored many fracking bills in his time on the Judicial Proceedings Committee, which he currently chairs. 

With just overnight notice, 60 residents carved out time to attend the impromptu meeting, including four local elected officials who have all expressed concern and opposition to fracking by either working on, or passing local ban ordinances for their respective towns.

Frostburg State University faculty members will cover a variety of topics during a Presidential Election Panel Discussion to be held at FSU onTuesday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall room 133A of the Lane University Center. This event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Stephen Twing, a professor in the Department of Political Science, will be the moderator. Members of the panel and their discussion areas are as follows:

The City of Frostburg's Historic District Commission will meet Monday, August 8, 2016, at 6:00 PM, in the City Hall Conference Room located at 59 East Main Street, Frostburg, Maryland.  The Frostburg Historic District Commission is charged with the preservation of historic structures and the surroundings within the designated district in order to safeguard the heritage of the City, stabilize and improve property values, strengthen the local economy and foster civic beauty.
